CARNIVAL VOLUNTEER

Summarize what you did in this activity/project:

This project was organized by a few seniors for their CAS project. We were given the opportunity to volunteer at a carnival and provide food/ games to staff members and family. It was a very interesting initiative as it wasn’t exactly meant to raise funds but rather make the staff happy and enjoy for one day. Everything sold was completely free of charge and all the games that were set up rewarded gifts for wins. For this, I and two other friends set up a game stall that offered two games. Both games were played by mostly all the people attending.

Explain what you hoped to accomplish through this activity/project?

Through this project I hoped to see the people attending happy and to see them enjoy themselves. I also hoped to socialize with new people and step out of my comfort zone by setting up a game stall myself with two other friends.

How successful were you in achieving your goals? What difficulties did you encounter and how did you overcome them?

I believe I was successful in achieving my goals as I was able to actively contribute towards being a volunteer that achieved the objective of the project. We had many people at our stall which forced me to step out of my comfort zone and interact with all of them, which was exceptionally difficult especially because of the language barriers, this proved to be a problem however, we had someone in our stall that spoke Tamil, who helped us get our points across and communicate with the staff members.

How can you apply what you have learned in other life
situations?

I believe I can use what I have learnt in the future when I am required to interact with people of different cultures and languages. I can also apply what I have learnt from this project in order to facilitate more opportunities like these from my side.
