GIRLS IN STEM CLUB

Summarize what you did in this activity/project:

I am the vice president of the Girls in STEM club in Kodaikanal. This club is an extension of the original Girls in STEM founded more than 7 years ago. In this club we support people hoping to take up a STEM related career or are just interested in it. We do activities and teach them about many things such as the science behind the experiments we perform, lab etiquette, etc.

Explain what you hoped to accomplish through this activity/project?

We hope to inspire students to pursue a career in STEM related fields and support them through that journey, especially girls. We also hope to expand our own knowledge in STEM and diversify our knowledge portfolio.

How successful were you in achieving your goals? What difficulties did you encounter and how did you overcome them?

I believe I was as the students that joined the club thoroughly enjoyed the experience and were comfortable with each other and us. They also enjoyed the experiment we performed and taught them about lab etiquette as well. Students who weren't fans of STEM joined as well in hopes of later enjoying this activity, we were successful in making that happen too.
